A Project Coordinator is working with the the Battle River School District, school staff, the director of EAS and University researchers. An additional advantage of this project is the "in-kind" contributions made by the Battle River School District through district wide professional development days, school release time, office space and other supports for the Project Coordinator. Participating schools will be supported with funds through the project and the district to provide release time for staff to meet together, plan and implement. The project has $315,000 in funding over three years from the Active Living Strategy and the Alberta Healthy School Community Wellness Fund. Through district wide implementation, the potential exists for both an implementation and financial model that can be applied to other districts seeking to integrate health and education outcomes to build and support healthy active school communities.
