DirectorBrian TorranceA bit about Brian...
Brian is incredibly honoured to be the Director of Ever Active Schools. Brian brings a great passion for school and community health to the position and believes in the power that schools have in building healthy communities. Brian grew up in North Vancouver before calling Edmonton home in 2001 but he still cheers for the Canucks. Brian graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelors of Physical Education and Recreation (BPE) in 2002 and then a Master's of Science from the Department of Medicine (MSc) in 2008. Through his Master's degree, Brian led the Healthy Hearts Research Study that has shown the great strides that can be made with partnerships and support from the entire school community. In 2012, Ever Active Schools has made a focus on, “having a conversation” with teachers, schools, parents students and partners about healthy schools. The Ever Active Schools vision of this social media initiative is to develop an active engaged online community where users feel comfortable to exchange information and stories on school health. Through these stories other groups will be more informed and inspired to inject wellness into Alberta school communities. Brian believes that finding the right recipe for school health involves teamwork, communication and bringing everyone together to build health into our everyday environment. Brian is an avid runner, competing in provincial road races, coaching athletes, and volunteering with mass participation physical activity based events. Brian is gearing up for a successful Vancouver Marathon, May 6th 2012. In September of last year, Brian was thrilled to introduce
his new daughter, Lendel Jay to the Ever Active Schools’ team. |
