Ever
Active Schools built upon the tremendous success of their first Health
Promoting Schools conference by partnering with Physical and Health Education
(PHE) Canada! The national conference, Shaping the Future 2011, is directed to
anyone working or interested in health and wellness in schools. Participants
can expect the following topics: Partnerships, Vulnerable Populations, Delivery/Implementation and Evaluation/Research.
The purpose
of the conference is to bring together individuals from across the country who have a vested
interest in the assessment, planning and implementation of Health
Promoting Schools. The focus of this event is to share Promising
Practices and provide opportunities for
participants to network, learn, share and revitalize!

Friday Keynote Speaker - Jim Diers

Jim
Diers has a passion for getting people engaged with their communities and in
the decisions that affect their lives. Since moving to Seattle in 1976, he put
that passion to work for a direct-action neighborhood association, a community
development corporation, a community foundation, and the nation’s largest
health care cooperative.
Currently,
Jim teaches courses in community organizing and development at the University
of Washington and serves on the faculty of the Asset-Based Community
Development Institute.
Jim
received a BA and an honorary doctorate from Grinnell College. His work in the
Department of Neighborhoods was recognized with an Innovations Award from the
Kennedy School of Government, a Full Inclusion Award from the American
Association on Developmental Disabilities, and the Public Employee of the Year
Award from the Municipal League of King County.

also been an active participant in the Hip Hop culture as a dancer since 1982
and completed his master’s thesis on this culture and its
importance for
educators and social workers in 1986.
